Washington, D.C., is home to the patronal church of the Catholic Church in the United States, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Knights of Columbus is the benefactor of its 329-foot campanile, or bell tower and, in 1963, the 56-bell carillon within what has been hailed as the “Knights Tower.” 50 Years and Counting: The Knights Tower & Carillon chronicles its history and the relationship between the National Shrine and the Knights of Columbus.
