James Cardinal Gibbons Memorial Statue

This record group (1927-1985) reflects the background on the construction of a statue of James Cardinal Gibbons in the District of Columbia.

After receiving the authorization of Congress and President Coolidge for the project, the Knights commissioned Leo Lentelli of New York as the sculptor. The statue was unveiled in August, 1932. Here are some excerpts from the program for the unveiling which is part of this collection.
