World War II

The World War II files (1939-1943) reflect the Knights’ activities during this war. Some material  on the Canadian “huts” program, such as this pamphlet  from 1941, as well as the USO material is included.

Supreme Knight Francis Matthews was chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Catholic Community Service and its representative on the USO. Materials relating to the Knights of Columbus Peace Program are also included.

This article  from the January 5, 1942, issue of the Knights of Columbus News reported the U.S. Bishops’ support of the “war in defense against wanton aggression.”
