The Knights of Columbus Museum will host a free lecture, My Christmas at Home in Africa, by Yosola Sholagbade-Adeoye, Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. Yosola will present the lecture again Thursday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m.
A native of Nigeria, Yosola currently resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Yosola describes Christian culture and customs in Western Africa. She was raised in Nigeria and will share memories of the Christmas season, which occurs at midsummer in her homeland, including cultural festivities, foods, music, and religious and spiritual devotions. Of particular note is a custom among African Christians to gather in their native villages before Christmas Eve along with families, neighbors and friends and provide for the needs of the less fortunate among them. They also exchange gifts, which are usually practical, and often handmade.
The presentations are free and open to the public.
