Architectual Treasures of the Vatican

Fabbrica di San Pietro and Vatican Museums

The exhibit told the story of St. Peter’s Basilica in artistry and effort – tracing the design, construction and evolution of the beloved basilica in artifacts and artworks from the Vatican. The focal point was a 1560 study model for Michelangelo’s design of the dome, the only one surviving of four originals. Some 100 Vatican treasures were gathered for the exhibition, ranging from rare documents and drawings, to the 16th century compass believed to have been used by Michelangelo.
